Biloxi Bacon
Goggle Eye Mullet
Pop Eye Mullet
This fish has many names, and all anglers either love them or hate them, there is no in between!
People catch them in mullet seines by the thousands near the end of October and early November near the coast passes and near the mouth of the river! This is when they spawn and the females are fat with eggs that are considered a delicacy overseas!
The meat is light and white and really doesn't taste as bad as their reputation! Though many would prefer to trade it for a mule trout or bull red, they are very easy to catch with a cast net! There are cities with Mullet Festivals and the fish is put in mesh wraps and boiled! You can also fry two nice size filets from the larger fish! Though Pompano and Trout are my favorites, Mr. Mullet does not taste as fishy as Spanish Mackerel!
The Wildlife and Fisheries considers them a trash fish and as such no records are kept, But you do have to buy a license to catch them as Anglers or Commercially! Go Figure!!!! A few years back, thats what they said about Redfish! Well if anyone feels they can beat my "Unofficial Record" of Five Pounds on the Nose, just bring your fish around and compare him to:
"Big Al"

"5 Pound 0 Ounces"
Unofficial: "LOUISIANA STATE RECORD!"
Big Al was caught at the shore of Lake Pontchartrain at Lakeshore Drive, New Orleans! This same trip we got a Redfish off the seawall on a handline! The "Lake" is Coming Back!
