THE BERTAUT & SON
BRIGGS
POWERED CLASSIC
CRUSIER
YES! IT'S A REAL MOTORCYCLE!
By Bob Loomis
Have you ever wanted to put a
Briggs and Stratton engine on a
motorcycle? Bertaut and Son Classics
has done it! The beautiful bike they
created is a full sized motorcycle with
a 3 inch longer wheelbase than the Sportster.
It has a top speed of 80 MPH, and cruises at 60 to 65 MPH
without even breathing hard. This
incredible bike won the Best Bike
trophy at the first dealer show it was
entered in! This is not your father's
lawnmower.
The Bertaut Eco-Matic 25 is
powered by a four stroke Briggs and
Stratton 25 cubic inch engine and
puts out 18 horsepower. As you can
tell, it is not exactly a stock engine.
It started out as an industrial /
commercial engine with a cast iron
cylinder sleeve. The head was then
fitted wiith two spark plugs to burn the
fuel and air mixture bettcr. The carb
was replaced with a 28mm Mikuni
Flat Slide carb for better throttle
response through all rpm ranges.
The intake and exhaust ports are custom
designed for high velocity and the custom
designed exhaust puts out a
great sound as well as low emissions.
You don't even have to pull-start it!
The bike is started by an electric
starter and also has a charging system.
The Constant Velocity Transmission
(CVT) is an automatic transmission
which eliminates the need to shift
gears but will allow the bike to
perform very well. It will smoke the
rear tire when you crank the throttle
and apply a little front brake. Pretty
impressive off the line, eh?
The accleration is not up to the
specs of a Ninja, but it wasn't de-
signed to be another crotch-rocket. It
will, however beat a Harley Road
King off the line and stay ahead of it,
for awhile at least.
And chrome? Stand back! There's
chrome and polished aluminum
everywhere. The chromed 19 inch
wheels are hand-laced with chromed
spokes. The engine has almost every
external part either chromed or made
from polished billet aluminum. The hand
controls are mounted on chrome handlebars
sitting on top of chrome front forks. The
exhaust exits through a chromed, fishtail
exhaust system which is hand made. Even the rear luggage
rack is show quality chrome.
The quality workmanship of the
Bertaut Eco-Matic 25 is everywhere.
The frame is hand built from .120" wall
steel tubing and painted in the same
fire-engine red as the 4.4 gallon
gas tank.
The light weight of the bike (320
pounds) allows it to be ridden with
greater ease than some bikes in it's
class and is partly responsible for the
80 mpg fuel rating and the cruising
range of nearly 350 miles from one
tank of gas! And when you get to
where you are going, the front and
rear disc brakes will make sure you
can stop there.
Every bike comes with a 12-month
unlimited mileage warranty from
Bertaut. The Briggs and Stratton
engine can be serviced at any of the
32,000 Briggs and Stratton dealers worldwide.
Can you own one? You bet! Since
the time production started, demand
for the Bertaut Eco-Matic 25 has risen
sharply. You will probably see a dealer
carrying the bike in your area very soon.
In fact, the demand has been so
high, production costs have actually
dropped. This drop has even lowered
the retail price. At this time, you can
expect to pick up new Bertaut for
around $ 8,999.00 US. Hard to beat.
