Comments: Just back from 3 great days at the beach, with near limits each day, it made for some great fishing for my customers. I was a little dissapointed in the size of the trout compared to the last couple of weeks, but I still feel that these are the best size for eating(12 to 14 ins.). Plenty of trout around in the bayous and bays of the Biloxi Marsh and our most fish came on a cotton candy colored french fry worm on a bright orange jig head and a chartruse beetle either by itself or in tandem worked well, and a slow steady retrieve just off the bottom worked best. There are plenty of throw backs out there, but there are definately enough keepers to go around, so get out there and have a good time. DON'T MISS THE ACTION, GIVE CAPT. HOOK A CALL IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO FISH THE BILOXI MARSH (504)643 5905.HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.

Comments: VENICE CHARTERS UNLIMITED has had some more great duck hunts. I had Ali Albayrak, his wife, and son down for a cast and blast. Well, we blasted em'! The duck hunting was great. Our limit if Pintails, Redheads, Teal, and a Hooded Merganser came in less than one hr. Ali brought his Labrador , "Knight", and he did great. He only got distracted by one nutria in 2 days! It was fun and it gave "Hailey", my lab, a needed break! The Pintails are really something this year. We are still seeing plenty of Geese, just not huntin' em much this week. The fishing has been really good, too. Look for the specks to start moving into their deeper, wintertime, spots after each front. We caught some nice fish on purple/white and chrt/red Bass Assassins. I'm running a Mardi Gras Special! Fat Tuesday is the 16th of Feb., and lodging will be included FREE for the week prior. Call 225-677-8420 for details. Fish or Hunt Geese during the day, Mardi Gras at night. What could be better? We still have some weekends left for DUCK SEASON, which ends on Jan. 17!

Comments: Bob, I have been away for a while.. Glad to see those big reds being caught on the beach. I like your post about the catch and release. When the world finally realizes how spectacular the fishing is in Louisiana, we may have to move to another planet.. Just hope you are in the tourist business when they all come. Went out this Saturday in the wind. My nephew was fishing on the bow of my 172 Sportfish- Scout and I hooked a nice red and my tug caused a slight pivot on the bow and that sent him flying into the icy water. He is only 15 years old. Luckily, we were only a short distance from the camp. No damage to him except his pride and some cold wet clothes. We got him warmed up right away. It was surprising to me as he is a very athletic young man who has been fishing in boats many times. I guess you have to be EXTRA careful in the winter. Hypothermia is a KILLER. Happy Holidays to you and yours and THANKS FOR POSTING high quality ACCURATE information about Louisiana's great fishing. Joey.

Get the young 'uns to fishing and hunting and we don't have to worry about them so much in their learning years. You're doing a great job of promoting the sport and you appear to be a right good fisherman too. Wish you and yours the best of the season. Cedro Wooly 12-22-98

Comments: Spent the last 5 days at the beach, and by the looks of the windy weather conditions we were going to have a rough time of it, but not so. Don Scarpelli from Evans City, Penn. drove 1200 miles to fish 3 days at the BEACH with me and was greeted at the dock Monday morning with 25mph winds from the N.W. but said he didn't come this far to sit in his motel room, so we headed for the Biloxi marsh and the deeper Bayous and it paid off. The larger trout were active and hitting plastics on the bottom in 10 to 12 ft. of water, and after catching our 50 trout limit we caught and released 27 more keepers, with no throw backs. Tuesday was more of the same, with a brisk N.W. wind but the trout were there again and another 50 large trout limit with 14 keeper throw backs and nothing undersized, again on lures. Wednesday was not quite as windy and was from the West at about 18, and this was the day of days, the big trout were turned on and we caught a total of 72 trout with only 13 being under 2 1/2 lbs. and we found these bad boys in the deep holes, 15 to 25 ft. all on lures worked on the bottom, letting the tide do the work. It took Don a while to get the feel of the bite, but once he did, he did a fine job. The best lure bar none was a cotton candy grub and a bright orange head, worked with 10 to 12 lb. test line. Don took enough photos, and has enough memories to take back to Penn. to last a long time and vowed to see what the summer fishing is like at the BEACH. Now on to Thursday, when Phil Partridge, Barron Partridge, Aaron Crowell and Tim Grogan came in from Mobile Al. and With Barron and Aaron(the young bucks) trying to put it on us older and more wiser guys it was a battle to the finish, with the older guys(although we got a real scare for a while) edging out the young bucks when it was all said and done. Another great trout day with 68 trout and about 15 keeper throw backs, all on lures, cotton candy and avacato w/red tail cocaho being the lure of choice. Friday, Phil Partridge invited Neil Hudgens, Billy Mason and Jeff St Clair, all of Mobile and he couldn't have picked a better day, light winds in the morning made for comfortable conditions as we got into the fish from the get go and never looked back and headed in with 100 trout a red and a flounder with about 20 keeper throw backs, again all on the cotton candy with a bright orange head and the avacato and red tail cocaho worked slow on the bottom. With the water temps finally being colder, the trout should stay in the deeper holes and move shallower as the sun gets higher. IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE THE "BEACH", GIVE ME A CALL AT (504)643 5905 AND COME AND FISH WITH CAPT. HOOK .

Comments: GREAT DUCK/GOOSE HUNTING and FISHING is what you can expect if you are planning to go to Venice, soon. The weekend was excellent for Specks in the 2-4 lb range. Reds are stacked up too downriver. We duck hunted Sat. and Sun., too, and put the customers on their limit every day, including 53 GEESE on Saturday morn. All Snows and Blues. I've never seen geese like this year! Plenty of Mallards and Canvasbacks, and too many darn Pintails. They are becoming a nuisance, since the limit is only 1 per man. ROLAND MARTIN, from TNN OUTDOORS, was down all weekend doing a show on TOPWATER Reds and Specks. I was fortunate enough to take him out yesterday for some Bass fishing and scouting. Along with the many bass he caught Sun. and Mon., he added a 60+ pound channel catfish, yesterday. I thought he had scared a big Gator off the bank when the monster came up and swirled. Roland caught the fish on a Blk/ Blu Jig. Be sure to catch his show on TNN every Saturday morning at 10:00. Plenty of days left in duck season, so call me up and book a trip. I promise you have never seen ducks and geese like we have this year! And the Trout are really getting cranked up. too! Call 225-677-8420 for more info!

Comments: Fished the last three days at the "BEACH" and put some beautiful sized specks in the boat. Friday Jim Miller and some of his buddies came to fish the Biloxi Marsh and our first stop yeilded 28 nice trout, our next stop produced 25 more with some up to 4 lbs., the good falling tide had the bigger fish active. Live shrimp under a cork and on a freeline with a light split shot. Saturday, John Bolling brought his two little nephews and his young son and told them that they would be fishing with the real "Capt. Hook", which I was told immediately struck fear in their hearts,(They were lucky to get 1 hours sleep, or so I was told) but after our meeting at the dock their little minds were put at ease and off we went in search of specks with their Zebco 33"s in hand. After making 4 stops, we headed in with 84 nice trout, 3 reds and a pair of over worked and sad sounding 33"s, but hey, they held up long enough to do the job, you guys get the "GOLD HOOK" for a job well done. Again live shrimp on a cork and freeline was best. Today, Randy Osmon of Mobile and some fellow employees fished with me in the Biloxi Marsh, and after catching 3O nice trout, they caught and released at least another 3O more, it"s great to see people from other states come here to fish and have as much respect for our waters as they have for their own, my hat's off to the guys from PRIME SOURCE, great job. Again live shrimp was best. Three day total 167+ trout and 3 reds. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A GREAT TRIP OUT OF SHELL BEACH, GIVE CAPT. HOOK A CALL AT (504) 643 5905......PAGER (504) 841 1446.....I ALSO HAVE HAVE GIFT CERTIFICATES, FISHING CHARTERS MAKE GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFTS.

Said you could catch bass until you got tired of it and switch to catching crappy or white perch as you call them in Louisiana. Love to go to sites featuring my home state.Really enjoyed looking at the pics of the many fish caught. will visit your site when ever i can. Thanks for making my day. Tom Faircloth

Comments: Just came in from 3 days at the "BEACH" at a friends camp, it sure helps when you don't have to drive a hundred miles a day. On Monday, Lonnie Houser Jr. and Lonnie Sr. came to Shell Beach to do some speck fishing in the marshes, Lonnie Jr. is from here and had moved to California to live and work and really has missed La. fishing, so since he was comming in for the Thanksgiving holidays he wanted to do a little fishing with his dad. It turned out to be a beautiful day in the Biloxi Marsh and we had no problem putting our 75 trout limit with 2 nice reds for good measure in the ice chest, man, Lonnie and his dad put the ants on them in the winding Bayous and turns using live shrimp under a cork. I have a hunch that they'll be some filets heading back to Silicon Valley. Yesterday David Arcement of the Gulf Coast Anglers Assoc. was due to come over from Houston to fish Shell Beach for a Fishing with the Guides article for his internet site but was suddenly hit with the flu and had to postpone til a later date, so what did I do on my day off, what else, fish. Did a little exploring and caught a limit for my freezer. Fished today with Bob Perkins of Brazilian Twine Co. his wife and two young sons, the gnats were fierce this morning with no wind, but they hung in there and the wind picked up enough to keep the little critters off. Again we were deep in the Biloxi Marsh using live shrimp under a cork and ended the day with 60 trout and 4 reds. SHELL BEACH IS HOT SO DON'T MISS THE ACTION, BOOK YOUR TRIP NOW WITH ESCAPE CHARTERS,for reservations call (643) 5905, beeper (504) 8411446

Comments: VENICE CHARTERS REPORT- WOW! Thats the only way to describe the ducks in Venice right now. Sunday morning, Capt. Bobby Warren and I had a group from Alabama down to hunt. We hunted our lease on Saturday and killed close to the limit, but Sunday was unreal! PINTAILS ARE EVERYWHERE! We have more than I have ever seen. Our limits Sunday consisted of 3 greenheads, 7 pintail Drakes, 6 widgeon, 8 geese(snows and blues) and the rest were Greys, Canvasbacks, Teal, and Redheads, the majority being the latter. And we were done by 8:30! The FISHING is also outstanding. 4 days last week = limits of specks and reds each day. Some Specks up to 4 lbs! Some hunt/fish combos still available for $250 per man. Duck hunts are$150 per/gun. The combo trip includes lodging for 2 or more days. Remember, we are just over an hour from New Orleans! Call me for more info! 225-677-8420. Capt. Brent

Well can you imagine our surprise when we boated 80 trout, not 1 to 2 lbs., but 1 1/2 to 4 lbs. and 4 nice reds, all deep in the Biloxi Marsh on live shrimp under a cork. It was my pleasure to fish today with Richard Landry, his son Rickey, his son- in-law Fred(affectionately known as the line breaker) and last but not least Mr. Landry, Richard's dad who braved the rain, wind and chilly temps. to make his first fishing trip in 15 years (his first trout was a 3 pounder) and he did fantastic under the conditions, great job Mr. Landry. Comments: Unfortunantly I found your "bycatch" story not unusual. I fish on the outer banks of North Carolina and have several times observed thousands of dead spot, croaker, mullet, blues and trout laying on the beach. These are often left by local netters who do not capture the desired species or volume to make it worth their while. I also saw, this past summer, the pogy boats you described but did not hang around long enough to witness the aftermath. And I too have have been checked by the marine fisheries patrol to see if I had a trout or drum 1/4" over the limit. I sometimes find it ironic that the bait I buy is often larger and more expensive than the fish I catch. Maybe I ought to just eat my bait and call it even. Enjoyed your site, keep writting, someone always listens. mbeckner@juno.com

Comments: Yesterday, Richard Wigh and a friend came in from Indiana to do a little fishing at the "BEACH" with Capt. Hook and I have to hand it to them, these guys are good sportsman. Even before they got their limits they released quite a few trout and redfish and had a great time doing it. They fish in this country and abroad, and couldn't get over all the different species of fish that they caught in one general area(trout, redfish, flounder, drum and sheepshead to name a few), needless to say they were impressed and are making plans to return in December to fish lures. Best technique was a live shrimp fished on a 1/8 oz. jig head slow on the bottom in 8 to12 feet of water. Today Lee Newman brought a couple of doctors fishing for their first time at the "BEACH", but have no fear, after some quick casting and baiting lessons they looked like pro's (well almost). When taking into consideration the delicate way they must treat their patients, casting and setting the hook must have felt like weeling an axe. But they did fantastic, boating over 46 trout and releasing over another 20 in the process. It's great to see people out of their element get into fishing the way they did, I really enjoyed fishing with them and look forward to the next trip. Hey Lee, I didn't forget you, another hour and you would have put on a clinic. Most fish caught on the bottom with a live shrimp on a 1/8 oz. jig head, and also caught a bunch on a green beetle on a light jig head on the bottom in 8 to 12 ft. of water.SHELL BEACH IS ROCKIN, DON'T MISS THE ACTION, CALL CAPT. HOOK IF YOU WANT TO GET IN ON THE GREAT FISHING. (504)643 5905

Comments: I've been Bow Hunting in Alabama since Friday and the fishing reports from this past weekend were less than encouraging. But it did not stop me and my clients, Tom Butler and the Saltaformaggio Brothers from Baton Rouge, from catching a pile of redfish Monday! Found em' ganged up BIG TIME! We put our limit in the boat in a few short minutes on Purple/Chrt Cocahoes and released plenty more. Then we went and chased the trout. Since there have been hundreds of boats in Yellow Cotton on the weekend and dozens during the week, I stayed away from there. We fished some of my Spring time trout spots and found a dozen nice specks before returning to the marina at 11:00. The wind really came up out of the South at around 9:30. I'll be doing Duck Charters almost exclusively for a while, but I'm sure I'll get a little fishing in, too. Espescially if the river stays down for a while. It's starting to clear up again. Catch Em Up! Phone 225-677-8420 to book a trip.

After the 5 Big Redfish Sunday we were surf fishing in improving surf conditions since the armada of tropical storms, so we decided to fish today since my son was off from school! We got three more redfish at the beach today, and some whiting and rays! The surf conditions gradually got trashed as the day went on, as "mitch" was rebuilding in the southern gulf, a dozen surferboarders came and went, they should have stayed till this evening. The beach ruining waves are building again already! Instead of fishing sat, we went to the NAS Air Show! Blue Angels photos link above! Lots of fresh fishing photos online to! Many sportsfishing clubs in Washington State are currently sponsoring a bill that will "Ban all Nets" in our waters as you have probably read about our "Salmon on the brink" It was very interesting and disturbing to see an area in your Page about the wastage in "Bycatch". We have the same problems in Puget Sound. When will the general public learn what us sportsmen and women already know! Thank you for a great place to visit and will be back. Comments: VENICE CHARTERS UNLIMITED has had a fantastic week of fishing. Yesterday, we had our limit and were releasing redfish at 7:45 a.m.!! We were working a couple of LARGE(50-100 fish) schools of reds in shallow water. The first school came right by the boat and everybody immediately hooked up. When the fish spooked, they came to the surface and we realized there were at least 75 fish around the boat. It was an awesome site. They were rooting aroung in the grass flat and kicking up shrimp, then balling them to the surface. Needless to say, the type of lure was not very important. Once again, the only skill required to catch these fish was getting the bait in the water. We also caught 150+ specks in two days. Best color for the trout is purple/chrt or glow Riverside Grubs or Cocahoes. Several of the other guides also had limits of trout. I talked to Shane Mayfield and he had a bunch of trout and 5 or 6 reds Saturday. We just finished brushing all of our duck blinds. Looks like the Duck Grass is really coming back fast and we should have a spectacular season . Please call soon if you want to get in on the best duck hunting around. Several good dates left in the second split and our large 2 story houseboat is perfect for large groups. Duck rates are $150 per gun. Duck/Fish is $250 per person, per day. Call to schedule your trip! 225-677-8420.Capt Brent

Comments: Fished Thursday with Bob Perkins and his accountant Jerry and their wives, what a great day at the "BEACH". Bob and Jerry are some of my regular clients and love to fish, but on this day it was the wives who would give the fishing lessons, using live shrimp under a popping cork and double chartruse rigs they boated the majority of the fish deep in the Biloxi marsh. Total for the day, 121 trout and 4 reds, way to go girls. Stayed at a friends camp at the "BEACH" last night and went to the Ducks Unlimited banquet for the St. Bernard Chapter, if you missed it, it was great. Today Ron Webber, Tony and Kevin came from Baton Rouge to do a little fishing. With the slow tide this morning we kept moving and picking up a few trout here and there until the tide finally started to push, and then we got into them pretty good, this time bayous close to the lake produced the most. Best bait was live shrimp under a cork with the final count for the day being was 73 trout, 1 flounder and 1 red. If you would like to book a trip out of Shell Beach, and have a great time catching fish give me a call. (504) 643 5905.........Capt. Hook

Comments: Had a good day at the "Beach" today with Mike Hale of Hale's Marine in Hattisburg Ms. and his friend Gary. It's a good thing these guys are excellent fisherman because this was one of those days when you know why they call it fishing. Things started off slow deep in the marsh until the tide started to move, then the fish got more active, live shrimp was the most consistant bait but as the tide started to fall hard the trout started hitting down deep on the purple cocaho tail using a slow steady retrieve with an occasional stop and twich motion. We also fished storm minnows on a jig head in the deeper bayous with some success, but the trout weren't really aggressive. The final count for the day was 75 trout and 4 reds and we fished hard to get them. Don't miss the action, if you want to have a good time and not be under any pressure, give me a call and come experience SHELL BEACH first hand.....(504) 643 5905.......Capt. Hook.

Comments: VENICE CHARTERS UNLIMITED FISHING REPORT!!!!!The fishing in Venice is great if you can find a protected area to fish with clean water. I've had limits of reds, some up to 15 lbs. There are plenty of fish still down river, but the river is rising and muddy. This makes it a little more of a challenge to find the fish. They are not in their regular Fall spots. Fish the end of the passes and in the canes for reds, the area around Empire and Buras for trout. Some big trout still down river, but the weather has to be right to get to them. Looking for some more big catches of Reds, many over 27 inches, in the next few days. Riverside twister tails in smoke and H&H Cocahoes for specks. Tip with shrimp for reds. Plenty of ducks down and I'm gflad to say, I've found some grass starting to grow back after Georges killed most of it. Some great duck hunting awaits you!! Call for availability and rates! He used a technique that didn't require the use of the teeth. He just seemed to throw an eight foot net effortlessly(it seemed to spin before it hit its mark)across the distance of his maximum line limit. I was amazed at how he did it. Can you give some input?

Comments: This past Saturday with the cool front the trout were turned on and started to move into a little deeper water. Took two clients deep into the marsh and fished the channels in ten feet of water and boated 50 keeper trout, not counting the 15 or so keepers we threw back and picked up 7 nice reds to top off the day. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were different stories however. With the warm-up the trout scattered out and went shallow and with each stop producing a few trout, not all of which are keepers, you had to keep moving. Mondays count was 49 trout and 5 reds, Tuesday was 39 trout 3 reds and Wed. was 54 trout and 1 red. There was plenty of small trout action to keep us busy in between keepers. Best baits during the cooler weather were the storm minnoes under a cork and avacato cocaho tails fished slow on the bottom, during the warming live shrimp under a cork produced most of the trout, with sparkle beetles under a rattling cork comming in a close second. As the water cools the trout will get into a deeper water pattern and their size will be more consistent. If you want to make a great fishing trip out of Shell Beach with no pressure to have to catch a minimum amount of fish and you truely want to enjoy yourself and your sorroundings while catching trout and redfish give me a call it will be an experience to remember........CAPT. Comments: Hi! All! Lots of new photo and info. sections at LaFishMag! The recent storms hammered our beaches hard, we fished and got skunked this AM! The sandbars and troughs and a lot of beach got washed away flat, even the crabs, sharks and catfish would not bite, water is still dirty (no trout on artificals), I put out cut mullet, cut trout, pogys, and pinfish!! Absolutly nothing even chewed the baits! May be the oil spill, hypoxia and or low tide this morning We lost some wetlands and prime migratory bird habitat nearby, over half of this spots nine miles of beach access is history. Some of the troughs are beginning to reform, hope we get lucky for the rest of the tropical season! Have a look around, sign our book and post a link to share your favorite site! Fish Forever, BOB!!

Comments: I'm happy to report that Campo's Marina at Shell Beach is is launching boats and has plenty of storm minnoes. There is still plenty of debris along the road, but the National Guard and the Parish are in the process of picking it up at the present time, so be careful after crossing the bridge until you get to the Marina, and don't forget the hardships these people are going through, some consideration of there situation will be greatly appreciated. If anyone wants to make a charter fishing trip out of Shell Beach give me a call, the Reds and Trout are biting and this is a good time to put a few in the freezer....CAPT. Comments: We hit the beach at Fourchon this morning!! Not as hard as the storms did though! Lots of sand gone and the beach is narrow in spots, but still accessible!! The deep troughs in all our favorite spots got wiped flat, but they are beginning to reform. Only thing around us today was sharks, we had fun with five of them! I'll have some more shark photos up in the "Fishing Photos" section monday evening! Still had wind and dirty surf, the big reds should be moving in anytime now, hope the storms quit so the coast can recover! Fish Forever, BOB!!

Comments: VENICE FISHING after a storm is always good, but I have not seen specks and reds like right now! The specks are so thick in a couple of spots, it's mind boggling. Thursday, a friend and I did some scouting to assess the damage from the storm and see how the freshwater fish did. Good news is that the Specks and Reds are literally everywhere! We realeased over 100 specks. Reds were ganged up by the dozens on the flats and we caught and released 20+. Bad news is the damage to the freshwater species was serious. The tide surge pushed 5 or more feet of saltwater into areas of the delta that don't usually see any. I would not expect to catch many Bass for awhile. Lots of them were killed. Freshwater cats, too. However, we did catch 5 or 6 big cats with one over 50 lbs. This is a good sign. It means some of the deeper holes provided some protection for the freshwater fish. We'll have to wait and see what the long term affects will be. Usually, after a storm like this, the fishing comes back stronger and better than ever. Saw plenty of ducks down river. Looks like some of the grass was killed, but plenty remains. If you have been waiting for the perfect time to bring some Clients or friends down to fish, now is it. Limits of trout and sight casting to reds on the flats is what you can expect with Venice Charters in Oct. and November. There is no better way to entertain your customers than a great hunting or fishing trip. They will remember you! Some prime dates left and 5 boats available! I live on the water on Lake Pontchartrain and was getting my home prepared for a direct hit, which by the grace of God never came. We were truely fortunate, for which I am most grateful. The Marina I fish out of was hit hard and we are now doing our best to get it back in order as soon as possible. The weather is beautiful now and we should be back on the fish in a couple of days and will post more reports at that time. Good fishing...... CAPT. HOOK....CAMPO'S MARINA....SHELL BEACH.
