On this weekend, July 20, I was in the surf just before dawn as usual but once the sun came up I was surrounded with "Tropical Storm" Trashed water, it was Mississippi River Brown and filled with grass, weeds and debris! It even smelled funny, like dead swamp and diesel!

Just as I was getting disgusted my son said he wanted me to catch a crab he saw, so I dug out the 6 foot cast net and let it fly! What a surprise! I had his crab and about 16 very nice shrimp in it too!! So we left around noon to go boil 3 dozen crabs! I caught ten pounds of shrimp and I started putting them in cut open two liter bottles!!! Every cast had mullet, croakers, baby pompano, spade fish, eels, puffer fish, you name it!! I even caught a flounder and a keeper speckled trout in the cast net that were chasing all the bait in the water!! All of this was within 4 to 6 feet of the beach! It is the most enlightening day of marine life to date! When you catch your own shrimp they are not grouped by size, so I picked out all the ones that are so big they run 9 to the dozen and we fried them!!!
