Comments: Thanks Bob for the invite! Your site here looks very inviting and I want to share my weekend trip with your readers. The mule trout are in for sure now as many of your skippers have reported. My two girls and I caught 30 4-7# trout out of south pass sunday on purple and white cocahoes tipped with fresh shrimp. My 7 y.o. caught 7 herself and now is so full of herself we can hardly stand it. On sat. we caught 50 school trout at taylor point . The key was getting there early through the fog!! By 10am we eating breakfast at the camp. Should be more of the same this weekend, more to come, thanks

Comments: VENICE REPORT- MAY 19 What a great week it has been. My two boats have had limits of reds and specks every day. Big trout, in the 3-6 lb range have been an every day occurance, instead of the exception. I’ve seen more 4-7 pounders in the last two weeks than ever before. I’ve been fishing a purple/chrt H&H Cocahoe Minnow or Chrt. H&H Sparkle Beetle 20-30 inches under a popping cork. Every once in a while, a big trout will actually come up and try to eat the cork on the surface. Usually, 1 pop is all it takes to get her to come back and take the Cocahoe. The area from Black Bay, all the way to Pass-A-Loutre, in Breton Sound has been hot. Look for the bait, espescially mullet and pogies. The three 7+ pound trout I had last week all had 8-10 inch mullet in their stomachs. Reds are still thick down in the canes. H&H spinners and Cocahoes in Blk/Chrt have been best. The fishing back up towards Buras and Empire has’nt been what it usually is this time of year. It’s been hit or miss and the trout up there are small. We fished up around English Bay one day last week and found the water muddy and the fish uncooperative. For a daily report, call the VENICE MARINA HOTLINE at 504-534-7701. We’ll have an up to date report for you to help plan your trip. Call to book your fishing adventure and WE WILL PUT YOU ON THE FISH! Until next week, good fishing! Capt. Comments: Now that the weather has given us a break, as expected the outside fishing is in top form and the last six days were great and I'm looking forward to the next thirteen. Breton Sound is red hot with large trout being taken on live shrimp free lined or on a popping cork fished 3 to 4 feet deep. Get them warmed up the shrimp then pop the chartruse plastic cocaho tail in on them and let the games begin. There are plenty of shrimp and poggie boats in the Sound so be careful. Comments: Seeing your pictures brings back good memories. I used to go camping at Grand Isle years ago, and did a lot of surf fishing near the rock jetties at the end of the island. It must be wonderful to be able to fish there so much, do you live nearby? What type of tide do you catch the most fish? Anyhow it was great seeing your pictures and look forward to seeing more in the future. Tight Lines <'{{{{< (Hi! Rocky!! We are across the Mississippi River from New Orleans, We ALWAYS do the best Surf Fishing on an incoming tide, and plan our fishing times to take advantage of the rising tide! The surf gets deeper, and the stirred up wave breaking zone gets narrower so big fish have better quality, deeper water. The NOAA tide ranges have been 'on the money' almost every weekend the entire year! I posted their link above!! Thanks for Stopping by, Fish Forever, BOB!!)

Comments: Fishing report from PORT ARANSAS 5-13-98 In the bays, fishing has been good. Lots of limits of Speckled Trout being caught around the North Jetty on live shrimp and green split tails. Also limits of Redfish are biting in the surf and off the ends of the Jetties.Live croakers are starting to get to a decent size for Trout fishing. The Trout are biting on them but the Croaker are small and weak, a couple of more weeks and it will be hot. With the high winds I have been taking my parties back behind the Terminal, California Hole, and Hog Island drifting and throwing live shrimp under an Alameda popping cork.We are catching nice Trout and Redfish on every drift.Fishing is good and just getting better.Trout fishing will improve every day with the surf being loaded with limits as summer approaches. Offshore fishing is still excellent. On the WATERWORLD this weekend,Capt Brad had 11 Ling (Cobia) on his trip. The next afternoon at 12:30 he left with my son and a couple of his buddies and ran out offshore and caught 2 more and saw a big ling estmated to be 80+ lbs, but wouldn't take a bait.Capt. Danny on the LISA ANN came in Sunday with an 81 lb. Wahoo that took a ribbonfish on 20# line. What a battle that would be. Capt. Reese on the BILL BUSTERS has been getting BIG Blacktip Sharks off the shrimp boats. Red Snapper fishing is a little slow, but those willing to work the rigs and run on out are catching limits of Sow Snapper.Sorry for the delay in this report.Darn computers! Comments: Due to the strong winds the last two days we couldn't fish in the open Bays and around the coastal islands where the larger trout have been, but the marshes are still holding fish. We headed into the Biloxi Marsh and fished the last two days and were rewarded with good catches of trout the first day and great catches of hard fighting red fish yesterday. Catching shallow water red fish was a thrill for everyone on board and the live cocahos went fast with all the hungry red fish in the root beer colored water of the Biloxi Marsh. The best way to rig up was a popping cork with four feet of 30 lb. leader material and a kahle hook fished along the grass lines, when caught on 12 lb. test and medium action rods it will put a fisherman to the test. Hopefully the winds will settle down soon so we can get after those big spawning trout outside. .......CAPT. HOOK......ESCAPE FISHING CHARTERS......OUT OF CAMPO'S MARINA, SHELL BEACH

Comments: Headed out to Breton Sound early this morning with 4 brave fisherman who were determined to get outside for some big trout action, only to be turned back at the rocks by a 20 mph S.W. wind. I made 2 quick stops in bay Eloi to justify the long run and picked up 2 trout in the milky brown water. Headed back to Lake Borgne and fished the shorline cuts and small bayous, the water was much cleaner and we caught trout in the 2 lb. range and ended up with a nice catch for the day. Best bait was live cocaho's under a popping cork in about 3 feet of water. Almost all the fish cleaned had shrimp in them about 1 to 1 1/2 ins. long, hang in there the time is near.....CAPT HOOK.....ESCAPE FISHING CHARTERS..... CAMPO'S MARINA, SHELL BEACH, LA.

Comments: Big trout (3 to 5 lbs.)are showing up in Breton Sound and Black Bay in search of food in order to beef up for the spawn soon to come.We all want that big trout we can brag about and this is the time to start looking for them. These early spring trout can easily be taken on artificials , such as queen cocaho's , mirro-lures and other hard plastic baits and live cocaho's under a cork or freelined on a kale hook. These are good early spring baits and are used with great success on the east side of the river. What about croakers, this is the premiere bait for sow trout (4 to 9 lbs.) when fished from the middle of May through June, normally they are to small to be a threat to the trout eggs during the early spring. Croaker size is important when seeking out large trout in the ( 4 o 9lb.) range. They can be fished using a sliding sinker and an 18 in. leader with a kale hook, when fished on the bottom in deep water it is deadly in hard current situations. Another way is to free line the croaker with no weight or just a small split shot or sliding sinker when fished in a slow tide or shallow water situation. Sliding corks are not as popular but are most effectivewhen the trout are holding at a particular depth. Any method you choose to use will bring you success, and don't forget a few more important things, use at least 20 lb. test for the really big ones and check and set the drag before the first cast because you and I know that no one will believe how big it really was if it gets away. I hope that in some way this helps you get that trout of a lifetime....Good fishing....CAPT. HOOK.....Campo's Marina, Shell Beach, La. CAPT. TIM URSIN SR/ESCAPE FISHING CHARTERS

Comments: VENICE REPORT WIND, WIND, NO WIND, WIND, WIND, WIND. That’s how my schedule has been. We’ve been getting one calm day(if we’re lucky) for every 5 windy ones. But the fish are still there, waiting for a break in the weather to feed. And that’s what they did Friday. As ya’ll have probably noticed from all the other reports, Friday was DEAD CALM. And the fish bit! We had our limit of trout and a few reds and I saw some 4-6 lb trout come in. Lots of big sow trout this year. I am already starting to notice a difference in numbers and size since the net ban. Spots that, two years ago, were giving up 5 or 6 trout, are now producing 20-30. Thanks to CCAL, we will be catching trout in the next few years like my Grandfather did in “the good ol’ days”! Best lures: when the tide is moving, purple/chrt cocahoes. Also, try the Spit-N-Image topwater for some explosive action on trout. When the tide is slack, try a chrt. Sparkle Beetle under a rattle cork. REDFISH are still thick at SW Pass and the rigs around Breton Island and Sandy Pt. Lots of bulls, though, so watch your limit. Still plenty of reds in the duck ponds on spinners and spoons. Bass fishing is hot down river. Just ride til you find cleaner water and fish dead ends. Call to book your fishing adventure and WE WILL PUT YOU ON THE FISH! Until next week, good fishing! Capt. Comments: VENICE REPORT I’ve got to start out the report with a Bluewater update. Fishing with Brandon Ballay yesterday, we caught the first Blue Marlin of the year. The 400 lb. Marlin hit a Carolina Lure behind a bird teaser that we were pulling for tuna. The angler, one of Brandon’s customers, did an outstanding job and fought the fish for 4 hours on standup 50#. We also caught a 60+ Wahoo and 9 tuna(30-50 lbs). We lost several, too. Obviously, the offshore fishing is getting hot. It was rough, though. We went out in 6 footers and fished most of the day in 5-7 foot seas. Not a good day for you guys in the small boats. Brandons 31’ Bertram handled it with no problem. Didn’t see another boat all day! We were fishing out to the East of South Pass. REDFISH and SPECKS The bite has been on, as long as the wind stays out of the South and doesn’t blow too hard. We are in for an incredible Speckled Trout season. I’ve been catching lots of big trout and I’ve talked to several other guides that are saying the same. Fishing purple/chrt cocahoes for the trout when they are in clean water, chart in dirtier water. Still plenty of reds on spinners and blk/chrt cocahoes. The reds are really aggressive and Billy Murray, from ESPN, caught a bunch of em’ on topwater. Spit-N-Image, to be specific. Billy usually comes down and fishes with us at least once a month. Look for the big fish on the beach in the next few weeks. If there are Blue Marlin out of South Pass right now, the trout are close to the beach. Call to book your fishing adventure and WE WILL PUT YOU ON THE FISH! Until next week, good fishing! Capt. Brent Roy Venice Charters Unlimited 504-677-8420 http://www.bertaut.com/brentroy.html

WELL I FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET THE LED OUT OF THE COPPER CAP ONCE IT COOLS JUST RUB SOME AXLE GREASE IN THE CAP BEFORE YOU POUR THE LED. THE SIZE OF THE BLACK TIPS WE USE FOR BAIT ARE 2 1/2 TO 3 FT. LONG AND WE CUT OFF THEIR NOSE AND THEIR TAIL, THE KYAK WE RENT FROM A LOCAL SCUBA SHOP. AND AS FOR THE CHUMMING OUT OF THE KYAK, I WOULD HAVE TO BE PRETTY DRUNK TO DO THAT. WHAT DO YOU USE TO CATCH THE JACK FISH AND THE SPANISH MACKERAL? THERE ARE LOTS OF JACKS ON PADRE . Comments: We fished at Fourchon Public Beach this weekend! We got 6 hardheads and my friend that caught some Big Redfish and got "hooked" on surf fishing met us at the beach! He was off from drill (military) and caught a small drum! The full moon trashed the fishing this weekend as usual! The water was muddy from the high winds and the tide went out all day!! That left us with shallow muddy water!! Got a speckled trout in the castnet in our deep hole bait spot on the way down! Vincent "Rookie" Simmons hooked up and we didn't! There were many campers, tents and fishermen on the beach like summer! The spring break "Bikini Flag" was flying too!!!Fish Forever, BOB!!

Comments: We’ve had another outstanding week of fishing. Wed. April 8, I had a couple down from Cincinnati. They really did a number on the big trout and reds. I got em’ on some small 14 inch trout early, along with 6 or 8 reds. The action stayed steady all day and we later found some 3 and 4 pound trout, ganged up. That was fun! Love to see those big yellow mouths shaking. The fish were all caught on plastic, and purple/white was best. We ended up with nearly 50 trout and 10 reds. Thursday was a different day. I had Lyman Thornton , from Baton Rouge, and Phil Brooks from Washington, D.C. Went right back to the spot I caught the trout on Wednesday, but the cold front had the wind switched out of the NW at 15-20 and gusty. We fished for 30 minutes and only had 4 reds. I made the decision to move South, and I’m glad I did! A 50 minute boat ride, and we were back in the action. No trout, but we got onto the 25-40 inch reds every cast. We had a couple of problems, though. Problem # 1, with 3 customers and myself each into a big red, there’s nobody to net the fish. It was each man for himself. Problem # 2, most of the reds were over 27 inches and it took awhile to get a limit of fish under 27. They would actually get excited when they brought in a 20 inch red! We finally ended up with our 20 keepers, after releasing lots of big ones, up to 25 pounds. Another great day in Venice! Until next week, Good Fishing! Capt. Comments: FISHING REPORT FROM PORT ARANSAS,TEXAS 4-9-1998 Well the offshore fishing was fantastic! On Wednesday we took out the MUTUAL FUN on a charter with some people from Minnesota and the results were great. We went straight to Big Southern rock and put in our lures. In just about 5 minutes we had our first Wahoo on.15 mins. later we boated it,about 32 lbs. Back in with the lures and no more than we got to trolling we had our second fish on. We got it right to the boat when he turned for another run and broke the line. In all, throughout the day we had about fifteen hookups, everytime we trolled by the rig we would get a single or double on. We lost 5 lures to fish we couldn't stop. It was the most incredible trip as far as the action that I have been on in a long time. We were fishing with 40 and 50 lb. line and should have had more. We took 60 big live perch for bottom fishing and never used them. Next to the rig I was throwing out 5 or 6 perch every pass and we would hook up and be fighting one fish when another would be flying out of the water after the live baits. Really something to see. All the boats there were catching Wahoo. Bayfishing this morning was good also, considering the winds we had to endure. The jetties are alive with bait everywhere. Lots of Speckled Trout around 5 lbs. Big Redfish, Spanish Mackerel, Black Drum, Ling, Flounder, and Sheepshead around the rocks. Fishing is great and getting better. Better book your trips now. No report next week, as I am going on vacation in the a.m. for a week, will report when back from Florida. Till next time GOOD LUCK AND GREAT FISHING. CAPT. CLARK MILES IN PORT ARANSAS, TX. Comments: VENICE, LA The inside fishing is really turning on right now. The last few days, I’ve had some incredible catches of reds and trout. On Saturday, I had Randy Plassmeir and a few of his buds down. We got on the big bull redfish and had a ball! We released one fish that was 48 inches and another over 50 inches. Great big bulls. We also kept our limit of 20-26 inch reds and released many more. We quit fishing at 11:30 a.m. The day before, the trout turned on and we had a limit of 75 in no time. Every cast! The reds are hitting purple/chartreuse, trout want chartreuse/red tail cocahoes. This is the Springtime action I’ve been waiting for and every day, it gets better. I’m fishing the next few and I’ll report this weekend. If the wind stays down, it should be awesome, again. Come on down and get in on the Spring frenzy. We’re only 75 miles from Downtown New Orleans. For more info., check out my website at www.bertaut.com/brentroy.html. Call soon for open dates, they’re going fast! Remember, I can handle up to 20 fishermen for coastal charters. Book now for your bluewater trip, too. We also offer free overnight accommodations, for 2 or more days fishing, on my 60 ft. houseboat in the Venice Marina. Sleeps 12. You won’t find that deal anywhere else in Venice! Comments: FISHING REPORT FROM PORT ARANSAS,TX 4-7-98 Bayfishing is good and getting better. With the high spring tides the baitfish are flooding through the jetties, along with them a lot of Speckled Trout are following. The North and South jetties are both producing good size Trout up to 8 lbs.Not the big limits yet but lots of nice fish.Trout fishing is picking up everywhere from the jetties back to the bays and back to Ingleside.Lots of trout in the 15 to 20" range around all the islands along the ship channel in 4 ft of water being caught on Alameda popping corks with live shrimp.Redfishing has been a little slow with the high tides, lots of water in the flats.Drift fishing in the flats with live shrimp or plastics is producing some Reds and Trout.Jackfish and Spanish Mackerel also showing around the jetties, which means the first Kingfish of the year from the jetties is close at hand. These Kings are usually the big smokers that show early. Offshore fishing is still great with limits of sow Snapper being easy to come by.Snapper up to 20 lbs. seemed to be coming off all the boats Sat. and Sun. WATERWORLD a 31' Bertram out of Woody's Sports Center did an overnight trip Sat. night and returned to the dock with about 600 lbs.of Blackfin Tuna, Amberjack, and Snapper. Some Ling are starting to show up around the rigs, with a big one being hooked on the MY GIRL, another 31' Bertram out of Woody's, but broke it off in the rig.Wednesday morning I will be taking my customers from Minnetonka Mn. out to Southern to try for some Wahoo and Tuna. We will be fishing aboard the MUTUAL FUN and will have a full report on that trip next week. That's it for now,so GOOD LUCK AND GREAT FISHING. CAPT. Comments: My son and I just returned from a trip to the Delacroix area. It was not a good day for catching fish. We talked to many people who were not catching a thing. Maybe it was because the cold front passed through last night. It was a pretty day to be out on the water. We put in at the Reggio Landing and went to Bayou Juanita where we caught 4 keeper specs and a couple of throw backs. From there we went to Lake Amadee where the action was almost non existant. A lot of boats moving around. We caught one keeper spec and two reds in Bayou Robin. Only one would go the 16 inch rule. Left there and went across Lake Leery to the Crow foot area. Alot of boats here but none catching fish worth reporting. This area appears to be getting a lot of pressure because of all the recent publicity in the papers. We managed to pick up one bass. Headed for the landing and found out that one boat had eight fish for the day. That was the most for the day thus far at 230pm. There was sure a lot of wind, but found Lake Amadee to have a lot of clean water. Maybe next time we'll do better than seven.

Comments: VENICE FISHING REPORT INSIDE FISHING The reds have finally showed up in their usual Spring spots. Saturday, I had Carter Askew and three of his buddys, Shawn, Shawn, and Junior, all from Morgan City. We caught our limit of 25 reds in no time and released another 40 to 50. The largest was 17 pounds. We were down river in the canes between Main Pass and Pass-A-Loutre. Most of the fish were caught on shrimp under a popping cork. SPECKS are showing up strong to the north when the wind lays down. Friday, I took Dr. Larry Foster from Baton Rouge. We ended up bass fishing, due to the strong winds. We had close to 50 bass, the largest around 5 pounds. We released several 3-4 pounders. We were down off of Loomis Pass, in the dead ends. Spinnerbaits worked best. OFFSHORE Reports of big Yellowfins have been coming in from the Canyon and MARS. Lots of Blackfins, too. Several Sails and a few Blue Marlin have also been spotted. Diamond jigs have been great for the tuna. A few wahoo still being caught. Limits of Snapper coming from the Delta and E. Bay. The month of April offers excellent inside fishing for big Specks and Reds. I’ll be offering a two day special this month. Call or E- Mail for more info. and come get in on the great Spring time action in Venice! Good Fishing! Captain Brent Roy 504-677-8420 www.bertaut.com/brentroy.html

Comments: VENICE CHARTERS UNLIMITED FISHING REPORT-VENICE, LA REDS, SPECKS, BASS- The action has been steady on the reds. Using 3/8 oz. leadheads and fishing the mouth of the passes, limits are pretty easy right now on 3-10 lb. redfish. Ideally, find a spot where the green, clear water is bubbling up through the muddy, fresh water on top. Blk/chart, Chart/red tails working best. Tip with shrimp if necessary. I’ve been catching a few trout down river, but they are nice. I’ve been catching lots of trout to the north when the weather has been right. Last Thurs. was such a day and we caught trout and redfish everyplace I stopped the boat. Once the front came through early Fri., the bays got muddy and the wind blew 30 mph. BASS are still tearing it up down off of Loomis and 3-X’s if you can find clean water. Try Swanson Bayou too with a N.W. wind. Some good fish coming from the wheel, but few in numbers. OFFSHORE- Tuna still thick in the Canyon, but nobody’s going that far out right now. Got a report from Scott Avanzino, who works on a rig in Green Canyon, that they are catching small tunas every cast off the rig. Scott also said he saw an estimated 800 lb. Blue Marlin Saturday swimming around the blackfin. It’s about that time! Someone will stumble on one in the next few wks. Lots of snapper in E. Bay, the Delta, and Main Pass. Brandon Ballay had a beautiful catch of 10-15 lb. Grouper on Sunday. Tuna still on the lump, but nothing worth writing about. Each boat catching 1 or 2 blackfin and maybe a yellowfin. Snappers there, too. If you’re coming to New Orleans and want to get in on some of Venice’s famous fishing, we are only 75 miles from downtown N.O. We’d love to take you fishing. Call 504-677-8420 or E-mail me for open dates and more info. You can also check out our web site at www.venicemarina.com. Good Fishing! Capt. Comments: VENICE FISHING REPORT REDS, SPECKS, BASS This past weekend was the best weather we’ve had down in Venice in a while. Flat seas and light winds made for some exceptional catches. I had Mr. Bob Hargraves and his son, Lucas, down from Hot Springs Arkansas. They had caught bass and crappie before, but never expected to catch 3-20 lb. redfish on every single cast. That’s what we did Saturday. Using 3/8 oz. heads and blk/chrt cocahoes, we slammed the reds. Literally every cast for 2 hrs. Til we got tired. We only had a few trout, due to the muddy water where we were. Lots of black drum, though. We later caught 20 bass on spinners in the marsh off of Loomis Pass. Clear water is hard to find in this area, but find it and you’ll catch bass. The biggest was 4.5 lbs. Look for the big trout to start showing up in a week or so out in Breton, Main Pass, and Sandy Pt. They should be on the beach, too. OFFSHORE We have had the best snapper season in recent history. Nearly every boat that targeted snapper and grouper this weekend, scored with limits. East Bay, W.D. 79, 86, even the 50 ft. rigs outside of Sandy Pt. Big snapper (20-30lbs) still suspended off the bottom. 93, BP, and Lena gave up some great Wahoo catches. I saw a 76#,a65#, and several 50+ caught Saturday. Sun. was slower. Downriggers and Rapalas. Some tuna still on the lump. Chumming is best. Some big A.J.’s and Kings at the 12 mile rigs off S. Pass. Snapper here, also. As you can see, the weather is our only hindrance this time of year. When we can get to the spots, there are plenty of fish to be caught. Call me if you want to get in on some of this action. Thanks! Capt. Brent Roy Venice Charters Unlimited 504-677-8420

Comments: The Louisiana Surf Fishing Team fished at Fourchon Public Beach Today Sat. 3-14-98! We caught and released two huge Black Drum (over 30 pounds each) and we caught 10 hardheads!!(pain) Friends nearby got a keeper drum too!! I mailed more Fourchon Beach Letters at Mr. Galiano's post office in Cutoff, La. This AM! The shifting sands quickly claimed a Toyota 4 wheel drive truck, it was abandoned and a midweek storm that partially replenished beach sand buried a sunken rear corner! Photos of all will be in the "Fishing Photos" section this week!! Happy Birthday Partner!! (Bobby Jr.7 yrs!) Fish Forever, BOB!!

Comments: Although I live in Nashville, TN, I love to surf fish at Fourchon Beach and Grand Isle. I just emailed ya'll a letter concerning the possible closure of Fouchon to the public. Please don't let that happen! I drive down there to surf fish four or five times a year. I always pick up a copy of Louisiana Fishing Magazine when I do. I enjoy this website very much. In fact, it sometimes keeps me sane when I'm having a stressful day at work (law) and it's been too long since I've had a hook in the water. Thanks for the great work. Tight lines!

Comments: How far out do you need to cast? Right past the breakers?? (Yes! We call the first "dip" just off the beach the first "trough" just past that is the first sandbar, usually where the waves are breaking! You can see it as a light brown line with blue blockers or polaroids when the water visibility is good, it is easier to "read" the waves though!! Just past the first sand bar is the Big Fish/Gamefish Zone!!! Sometimes at high incoming tide they are right next to the beach in the first trough!!Good Luck to You, Fish Forever, BOB!!)
