The structure was built in the early 1800's and moved several times due to the Mississippi River changing its course over the years. The flood control act in the 1920's began the current Mississippi River Flood Protection Levee System. The third time it was disassembled it was never rebuilt. The "Edgar Bertaut Sr." tract of land is 240 acres of sugar cane with several oil and gas wells that are no longer producing.
