Shark, Remora, Catfish Invasion & Bycatch

Fourchon, Louisiana's Free Public Beach!

Caught and released this same tope shark twice! He has a white scar on his back from some encounter. He was fun, and jumped out of the water repeatedly.

A passenger was onboard the second time he came in, see below!

30 minutes later this big Remora "suckerfish" was onboard the shark the second time he came in!

There was a catfish invasion this weekend! Small bait mullet were hard to catch because of all the recent rain diluting the water on the roadsides. Every cast traded a mullet for a hardhead catfish, we caught dozens. Bobby caught his share of cats too!!

The Denham Springs Fishing Team was at the beach this weekend too, I saw this "redfish" at their campsite, guess they got aggravated with all the hardheads too!

Sadly there were 2 dead Dolphins and 2 Dead Loggerhead Sea Turtles on the beach, they were probably drowned bycatch, they all washed up at the same time. I inspect the turtles for visable tags, some have special tags that require a handheld scanner to find. I mark them with paint as the Stranded Marine Mammal Patrol does so they don't get logged in with NMFS in Miami more than once.

On a brighter note I saw these beautiful Roseate Spoonbills this weekend! Thousands of shore birds in background.
